How to Remove a Bestops From a 1997 Jeep Wrangler

If the top of your 1997 Jeep Wrangler was damaged and needs for a replacement, or if you want to install a new top on your vehicle, then you will need to remove the Bestops completely from the Jeep. This will take at least an hour to do.

Instructions

1. Peel back the fabric on the top, where the windshield meets the top, to reveal the front edge of the frame of the top. Peel back the fabric around the door opening on the vertical part of the top. Lift up around the edge of the top, just below the windows, to pull out the top from the belt rail. Peel out the top from the lip around the tailgate as well.

2. Open the door. Remove the pins from the rear bow attachment to the main roof cage using your hands. Unzip and remove the windows. Pull up the corners of the top, just above the taillights, to release the entire perimeter of the top from the back half of the Jeep.

3. Unsnap the top from the inside support bars by hand. Peel back the front of the top from the windshield retainer at the top of the windshield. Unbolt the brackets from the sides of the Jeep top using an open-end wrench, Phillips-head screwdriver and a Torx-head driver. Pull apart the bows and brackets from the top and pull off the Bestop as an assembly.

How to Install Bushwacker Fender Flares

Bushwacker fender flares are made of a durable, flexible plastic material. These fender flares come in a factory black color that matches the trim on most vehicles, but they can be painted any color to match a specific vehicle. Bushwacker Fender Flares use two methods of installation -- double sided tape and self-tapping screws -- so they are sure to last as long as you want them on your vehicle.

Instructions:

1. Use a rag and rubbing alcohol to wipe the area along the fenders where the Bushwacker fender flares will be installed. Remove all mud, dirt and/or other debris where you will install the fenders. The alcohol removes the debris and evaporates quickly, leaving a clean, dry surface for the flares.

2. Apply the double sided tape that came with the fender flares to the inside edges of the flares. The tape length should fit exactly with the fender flares. Smooth the tape so that it adheres well to the flares with no wrinkles or bumps. Pull the plastic off the exposed side of the tape and place it on the very edge of the fender, just above the wheels. The flares are made to fit and follow a variety of vehicle shapes and body lines. Press the flare against the fender to make sure it is fully attached.

3. Place the new bolts for the Bushwacker flares through the holes where the previous fender flares were on your vehicle. If you had no existing fender flares, use the self-tapping screws that came with the Bushwacker flares. Place them in the holes through the flares, and screw them through the metal fender with a drill. No nuts are needed on the backside of self-tapping screws.

Tips:

If you want to paint your Bushwacker fender flares to match your vehicle, it's best to paint them before installing them.
